This month the United States State Department will be naming Heidi Crebo-Rediker as its first ever Chief Economist. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton declared that she is, without a doubt, the perfect person for the position.
Crebo-Rediker was formerly the Chief of International Finance and Economics in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and, before that, a Co-Director of the Global Strategic Finance Initiative at the New America Foundation. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the London School of Economics, and her views concerning the economy and finances have been featured by institutions such as BBC, CNN, and Forbes. She was also listed by The Wall Street Journal Europe as among the “Top 25 Women in Business”.
The addition of a Chief Economist to the State Department is part of the Obama administration’s plan to enhance job growth in the country. Secretary Clinton made the announcement during her speech that emphasized “Jobs Diplomacy”, a government initiative to boost the country’s economy and advance American businesses overseas.
